Continuing the build

The next step is to glue the two halves together. this was done with good old PVA and then put under some pressure while it set.

While the main body was setting it was time to have a play with the shape of the handle.

Handle Prototype 1
For the handle i again used a piece of Jelutong. Quite simply i wanted to try a slowly tapering design, a rough curve was drawn on the wood and the curve cut on the band saw.

Sand / Glass paper was used to round off the edges and give a better profile to the shape. The result was as follows:

The squareness of the shape and the depth of the upper part of the grip made it quite uncomfortable to hold. from this design i went on to create a second handle using the same techniques. This time i maintained the curve at the front of the grip but also repeated the curve at the back making the handle a uniformed width down its entire length. Handle 2 looked like this.
This was a much more comfortable shape due to its thickness and was the design that i decided to take forward.
